MRSA: What you need to know

1/26 -- MRSA stands for Methicillin – resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Staphyloccus aureus (often called “staph’) is one of many bacteria that normally reside in or on humans and does not usually cause infection. MRSA is a type of bacteria that is resistant to treatment with certain antibiotics. These antibiotics include methicillin and other more common antibiotics in the penicillin family. Staph infections occur most frequently among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities (such as nursing homes and dialysis centers) who have weakened immune systems.
